Disclosure: Cluegent offers a competing product. This guide checks public vendor documentation, not hands-on performance. Product details were checked September 19, 2026; confirm current entitlements before paying. The exercises below are our own practice suggestions.
What do their official sites emphasize?
Cluely describes an assistant that uses live conversation context to provide answers and notes. Its site says it does not join a meeting as an extra participant. Otter emphasizes transcription, searchable meeting knowledge, takeaways, and follow-up work; its homepage describes both sending it to meetings and recording from a device.
That does not mean Cluely only provides live help or Otter only produces a transcript. Product features overlap and change. Compare the workflow available in your actual account, not an old category label. This is a documentation-based guide published by a competing vendor, not a controlled test establishing a winner.
Match the tool to a concrete job
For a project manager, the main job may be recovering decisions and owners after a meeting. For a salesperson, it may include help framing a response during the call. For a candidate, practice feedback and permitted contextual support are a different requirement from preserving a team-wide meeting archive.
Write a one-sentence acceptance test: 'After the meeting, I can find who owns the migration and its agreed deadline,' or 'During a permitted rehearsal, I can get a short explanation of an unfamiliar term.' Choose a primary requirement first. Otherwise a long feature checklist can obscure the task that determines whether the subscription is useful.
Run an original five-minute meeting exercise
Use a synthetic conversation with two people who have agreed to recording. Say that Maya owns a migration due Friday, then explicitly change the deadline to Monday. Mention a separate idea that has not been approved. Include one unfamiliar acronym and ask for clarification. Avoid real customer information while evaluating a new service.
Afterward, inspect whether the summary preserves the changed deadline, assigns the correct owner, and distinguishes a decision from a suggestion. Ask where the evidence appears in the conversation. For live assistance, check whether the response helps with the current question or repeats an earlier topic. These checks reveal practical errors that a smooth paragraph can hide.
Check privacy and sharing separately from visibility
Whether an app appears in a participant list or a screen share is not the same question as whether recording or outside assistance is permitted. Review meeting policy, participant consent, account retention settings, deletion controls, and who can access shared notes. An unobtrusive interface does not grant permission to record confidential discussion.
Before a team rollout, test with a non-sensitive meeting and a second account. Verify the intended viewer can access the shared artifact and an unintended viewer cannot. Check the actual settings for your plan. This guide does not make legal compliance claims or promise that either product is invisible across all devices and meeting configurations.
Decide using errors, effort, and useful outcomes
Keep a simple log for three practice meetings: incorrect owners, missed decisions, time spent fixing the notes, and useful answers received during the call. The most useful product for you is the one that meets your primary requirement with acceptable correction effort and account controls. There is no measured winner in this guide.
If your goal is interview preparation rather than a shared meeting record, consider Cluegent's desktop workflow alongside the interview-focused guides below. Use the same synthetic exercise and do not assume it offers an identical collaborative knowledge base. Keep employer assessment rules separate from general meeting convenience when deciding how to use any assistant.

Where Cluegent helps
Cluegent supports permitted live workflows with transcript context, typed prompts, screenshot-aware answers, resume context, custom response behavior, quick action buttons, and a private desktop overlay. It is most useful when you already understand the subject and need help staying structured under pressure.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cluely just another transcription tool?
Its current positioning includes live contextual answers as well as notes. Evaluate the specific workflow you need rather than relying on a single category label.
Does a tool without a meeting bot remove consent requirements?
No. Interface visibility and permission to record or use assistance are separate issues. Follow the meeting and assessment policies that apply to you.
